REGARDING GENERAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Throughout the year, we receive many inquiries from church groups who would like to serve with us.  Unfortunately, we are generally not able to accommodate such requests.  We set our schedule in November for the following year, and cannot easily work in new groups as we are an all-volunteer organization with limited time resources during the week and limited capacity to "train" new groups.

We also receive a number of inquiries from individuals and small groups who want to help.  Our grocery bagging operation is staffed entirely by individual volunteers, and anyone who wants to help bag groceries is welcome to show up between 10:00 and 10:15 any Saturday morning.*  At present we tend to have more bagging help than we need, but this could change at any time.

*be sure to check this website no more than two weeks before serving to make sure that we will not be closed or serving elsewhere on the Saturday you would like to volunteer, as we do not distribute grocery bags on the days we serve elsewhere.

AREAS OF ACUTE NEED AS OF JANUARY 2010:

What we really need in terms of volunteer help are people to fill the following position(s):.  If you are interested, please contact Mike our Director at (410) 652-9572.  (Because of the nature of these position(s), we wouldn't expect anyone to sign up for either without a few weeks of observation first):

1.  DRIVERS.  We currently have five and could use up to two more.  Our drivers use their own vehicles to pick up and drop off guests from/to various apartment conplexes in Edgewood.  Roughly 35 of our guests make use of our transportation service (it's pretty much the same crowd every week, so drivers don't have to worry about picking up "strangers").  Two drivers typically volunteer on any given Saturday and make about three runs each.  Any kind of schedule you would like to set up will likely be accommodated.  We offer drivers reimbursement at the rate of $0.14 per mile.

2.  BOARD MEMBERS - PARTICULARLY SOMEONE WHO CAN DEDICATE TIME TO FUNDRAISING.  We are currently without a Vice President and thus far have no volunteer willing to accept a nomination for a 3 year term as President starting in October 2010.  We need volunteers who are willing to assume as much responsbility as they can for the long-term survival of this organization.  At present our board does not meet separately from our general meetings which are held quarterly.  Our next general meeting will be held on Thursday, March 11 at 7 p.m. at Prince of Peace Church.  All are welcome to attend.
