HISTORY
When local churches in Edgewood began noting an increase in the
number of calls asking for assistance with food in the Spring of 1992,
two young mothers, Susan Graper and Joann Wigglesworth, began the
process of organizing a soup kitchen to serve those in need in the
Edgewood community. They consulted with the Department of Social
Services, the Office on Aging, and the Harford County Public Schools
and determined that a need existed for a food program to serve on
Saturdays, since the senior centers, schools, and helping government
agencies were closed. With the support and sponsorship of 17 area
churches, The Sharing Table opened in January 1993 at Presbury United
Methodist Church in Edgewood.
The Sharing Table currently operates out of Prince of Peace Catholic
Church in Edgewood. We serve an average of 80 guests every
Saturday and distribute about 70 grocery bags to any guest who wants
one. We are currently sponsored by 21 member churches.
Susan Graper retired as President and Director of The Sharing Table in
September 2007 after fifteen years of tireless and dedicated service to
the Edgewood community.
